Dr. Suess - Fox in Socks, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, The 500 Hats....

It's Silly Sock Day! Today, we all wore silly socks and discussed 'pairs' while reading Fox in Socks.

We learned about ABC order then placed fish with various words on them in order (glued onto sentence strips.)  We also wore read and blue yesterday, but I forgot to snap a picture.  :(
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

Our focus skill this week in our Scott Foresman curriculum is 'character'.  We read The 500 Hats of Bartholomew  Cubbins and discussed some of our favorite characters from the story.  Next, we thought about individuals we know that wear hats.  Chefs, hunters, elves, kings, queens, construction workers, policemen, firemen, etc.

Blends

This is the T chart we created after brainstorming and illustrating various items that begin with these blends.

Afterwards, we made crowns (for our little kings and queens) that had the blends we learned all over them!

Another resource that I LOVE is Dr. Jean's Totally Reading.  She has a 'slide and blend' song where I allow the students to ballroom dance all over the room while singing the various blends.

Valentines Day

Love and Fun are in the Air!

Aren't these beautiful?  So thoughful from my little gentelman, Landon.

Polar Bears

First, we developed our schema then read multiple texts about Polar Bears.  Afterwards, we discussed the new things we learned and some of the ideas that may have not been correct from before (our misconceptions.)

This is the cover of our Polar Bear Book.  I purchased Deanna Jumps unit from TpT. Love it!

Here are our Polar Bear biscuits. The students loved making these (I loved eating them!)
