Polar Bears / Arctic Animals

We're learning all kinds of amazing facts about Polar Bears!!
Most of the materials that I used during this unit were purchased on TpT. The is Deanna Jump's Arctic Animals Unit.

First we discussed ways that animals survive in the winter.  We created a T-chart and sorted animals that hibernate, adapt, and migrate.

After reading multiple non-fiction books on Polar Bears, we took a break and created some Polar Bear biscuits.   Then, we wrote about the supplies we needed and directions we had to follow in order to create these yummy treats.

We also read and compared to storries about different kinds of bears.  We compared Goldilocks and the Three Bears  to The Three Snow Bears.   We used Jann Brett's versions to discuss the amazing illustrations as well.

Christmas

Christmas Fun!!!

Our present writing....."__________ has _____ presents up on top."

Our helpers at school are very important to us.  We made gifts for all of our volunteers and our custodian.

Santa brought us a package from the North Pole. We found bells inside, just like the ones in the Polar Express Book!!!

Zero the Hero visited us and brought us '0' mints.

Writing in the snow is so cool.

Polar Express Day!!!

We drank hot chocolate, wrote about what we like to do in our jammies, lounged around and watched a little of the movie, and discussed what Christmas magic is using adjectives.

Merry Christmas!

We've been sooooo busy having fun that I haven't posted in a while.  Here are some of the things we've been up to in December......

We're studying 2D & 3D shapes in math.  Creating these Gingerbread houses is the perfect review. Rectangular prism Hershey bars for the door, tootsie rolls for the cylinder chimney, a milk carton cube as the actual house, gumdrop cylinders, candy corn cones, the list goes on and on!!!!!

Leftover Halloween candy helped with our creations!

Shape Sizing Trees

Sorting #D Shapes

We tasted real gingerbread cookies then created a pie graph.

We compared 3 different Gingerbread Storries

There's actually an addition sentence at the bottom of this tree.
____black presents +_____green presents = _________

Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments
You simply mix a lot of cinnamon with a dab of applesauce.  They smell heavenly!!!
