Insects

It's Insect time!

First we read many non-fiction books and gathered information about all kinds of insects.

Our insect unit lasts about 2 weeks.  We discussed the differences between questions and statements, then sorted some example of each on our chart.

Do you like bugs?  Are they creepy or cool?

Of course after explaining why we thought one way or the other, we graphed and wrote about our findings.

Learning about insects is the perfect time to introduce adjectives (of course we've discussed them all year, but now we can distinguish between adjectives, nouns, and verbs.)

The life cycle of a butterfly is so fascinating to little ones!  We sorted facts about each stage in the cycle then divided into groups to construct our illustrations about each stage.

Whats an insect unit without honeybees?

After reading other non-fiction literature, we labeled and described honeybees.

Oviparous Animals

We're learning all about animals that lay eggs!  We read Chickens Aren't the Only Ones and used Google images to pull up many pictures of animal babies.

Of course, after learning about them, we needed some hands on experience! Thanks to our wonderful parent volunteers, we created some beautiful eggs!

Weather and Spring

Springtime weather is so much fun to discuss.  Using our Weekly Readers, we discovered various activities we can do in each season and the three types of clouds.

Next, we illustrated examples of water in its 3 states.

Dr. Suess - Green Eggs and Ham

We're celebrating Dr.Suess Week!

What's better than a dish of Green Eggs and Ham?!
